On Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, Evergreen Estates Neighborhood Association volunteers rolled up their sleeves and planted 7 new trees in the neighborhood — 5 native oaks and 2 jacarandas, whose violet blooms will light up our streets for decades to come.
The event was initiated by Evergreen Estates Neighborhood Association Vice President Paul Dennig, and joined by board members Chetan Pawar and Sonia Bansal, along with city council member Aadit.
The planting was organized in coordination with Our City Forest, the San Jose nonprofit greening Silicon Valley for over 30 years. Their crew guided volunteers through proper planting technique, from digging to staking, so every tree gets the best possible start.
The event was funded by the Evergreen Estates Neighborhood Association through a BeautifySJ grant from the City of San Jose — proof that a modest grant plus neighbor elbow-grease goes a long way.
We were honored to be joined by District 8 Councilmember Domingo Candelas, who stopped by to thank the volunteers and voice his support for greening our district. (His remarks are in the video below.)
Thank you to every neighbor who dug, hauled mulch, and watered — and to Our City Forest and the City of San Jose for making it possible. Seven more trees for Evergreen Estates. 🌳
Weekly Watering — Keeping Our Trees Thriving 💧
A week after planting, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, 7 volunteers gathered at Evergreen Park for our first weekly watering session — and gave all 7 young trees their water in about 30 minutes. Sunshine, good company, and the quiet satisfaction of keeping our oaks and jacarandas thriving.
Young trees need about 15 gallons of water each, every week, for the next couple of years to grow big and strong. So we’re making this a weekly neighborhood tradition: every Saturday at 10 AM at Evergreen Park. It’s as much a meetup as a work session — come connect with your neighbors, even if you can’t do the heavy lifting.
Join us next on Saturday, October 24 at 10 AM — with a limited breakfast for volunteers! 🥐
